When You Don't Have All the Answers
You Don't Have to See the Whole Staircase
We like certainty. We like maps. We like knowing where we're going, how we're going to get there, and what is waiting for us when we arrive.
But life doesn't always give us that.
Sometimes we find ourselves standing in the middle of a season we didn't plan. We have questions. We pray. We wait. And still, the answer doesn't come in the way we expected.
What do we do then?
Maybe we walk anyway.
Enough Light for the Next Step
There is something beautiful about faith that doesn't require us to have the entire road mapped out. Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step. Not the entire journey. Just the next step.
And that can be frustrating. Because we want the whole picture. We want to know:
Will this work?
Will everything be okay?
Where am I going?
What happens next?
But perhaps faith is partly learning to trust God with the parts of the story we cannot yet see.
An Answer vs. Reassurance
Think about how often we want an answer when what we really need is reassurance.
We may not need to know exactly what tomorrow holds. We may simply need to remember that we don't have to walk into tomorrow alone.
That distinction matters. Because uncertainty does not automatically mean we're lost. A season of waiting does not mean nothing is happening. And not knowing does not mean God has forgotten us.
Room for the Honest Prayers
There is room for questions in faith. You don't have to pretend you understand everything. You don't have to manufacture certainty. You can say:
"God, I don't understand this." "I'm afraid." "I don't know what to do." "I need You."
Those prayers are not signs of weak faith. Sometimes they are the most honest prayers we can offer.
Just the Next Faithful Step
So if you don't have all the answers right now, take the pressure off yourself to solve your entire life today.
Ask instead: what is the next faithful step?
Maybe it is making the phone call. Maybe it is resting. Maybe it is forgiving. Maybe it is asking for help. Maybe it is opening your Bible. Maybe it is simply getting through today.
Whatever the next step is, take it.
You don't have to see the whole staircase to take the next step.
